Thanks to Tiffany I saw this video on how to open those plastic clam shell casing on almost anything you get at the store these days. Click on over here to view it on You Tube. We will all need this come Christmas. Who knew?

Well, here are some things I'm buying at Meijer this week. Actually that's not entirely true, I'm still stocked up on A-1 from the last time it was free. Maybe I'll see what their Marinades taste like. If you find a great deal at Meijer, leave me a comment and let me know.

How It all Went

The reason I even started this whole thing is because I wanted to use up the rest of the zucchini from the neighbors. We really love our neighbors, the Snowbirds. They area young retired couple whose nest is empty, so they spend the winters somewhere warm. Yes we are jealous. Over the years I've really gotten to enjoy them, they make me laugh. They assure us we are right on schedule. They loan us stuff. And he gives me his coupons. Anyway, this year they shared zucchini, cucumbers and green beans. and I finally decided it was time for the last batch of bread. But the pantry smelled.

So off on the potato adventure I went. Thanks to Katie and Tiffany for their ideas I made Make Ahead Mash Potatoes. 3 batches of them. Of course, this was unplanned cooking which means unplanned shopping. So here is what I do: I go to Savings Angel and do a search on Sour Cream, Cream Cheese, and Onion. Then I can see where the best prices are. This week it was Family Fare. Really who knew? And they are just down the street. I might not score the deal of the century, but at least I can see where I will be gouged the least. So now that I am typing, I realize that I spent more than the silly potatoes! Well I just can't stand to waste food. It accounts for some of the extra pounds that came with our babies and decided to stay around. Yep, we don't make the kids clean the plates, we do. I had planned to make my Russian Meat Salad or as others call it: potato salad, so at least I had those ingredients on hand. That is why I bought the potatoes in the first place. I need to hire serious cleaning help to recover my kitchen, which was looking a little wind tossed when I began. It now looks like a full hurricane blew just over and dumped all the stuff it collected on my counters. Sorry, I didn't photo that for you, my self esteem is not ready to let you into my kitchen on it's worst day. So I decided it was time to grill out. This way I can clean up a bit while The Prof cooks.

You can see my potatoes ready for the freezer. I reuse the plastic bags. See this is a post of confessions. It really started in our year in Russia. They don't have Zip Lock there or even an Aldi generic. So washing worked. They all had these draining dish racks that hung just about your sink. Really a ingenious design for it. So we would clip them on the bottom of it with clothes drying pins. Yep we line dried the laundry there too. There are few money saving ideas I haven't tried at some point. But I don't love all of them. And I don't do all of them. But now that I know that you don't have to waste your plastic bags, I recycle them. Moving on....I will also confess that Cents and Mite didn't finish their potato salad....so I had to.

Potatoes Again

This is not how I planned to spend my Saturday. We have been cleaning out our basement this summer and planning to switch some rooms around. Today was to be cleaning and moving day. It is our last weekend before The Prof begins teaching again and we have just one more week with the boys (scratch that, Cents is off to school this fall too)at home. So time to get those rooms cleaned out and rearrange some bedrooms around here.

Instead, I'm currently boiling 9 1/2 pounds of potatoes. The Prof picked me up the 10# bag at the store last week (be specific for those hubbies ladies!). And now my pantry smells bad. Real Bad. So I pitched about half a pound and the rest are boiling away on the stove top. You really ought to see my info about how to do this without peeling here. It is going to save me a military amount of peeling today.

So I will be busy finding things to do with all those potatoes today. Soup and salad come to mind. Any other ideas, please share, and fast!

Tuesday's Table

As usual I went to Walgreens first this week. I forgot to photo the Smooth Away that I bought. They have the occasional $1 off coupon for those "As Seen On TV" products. Then I chose the pool for next season. It was on clearance for half off making it $14.99. I picked up two free photo products. The Poppycock was on sale for $1.99 and there was a $1 off coupon in their back to school booklet (there are still plenty at the store to pick up) and I used a .75 off coupon to make it .24 each. There is a $5 off $25 coupon that I didn't use because my total (after last weeks register reward coupons of $11) was $14.70. To make this deal better I could have picked up 4 Keebler cookies or crackers for $10, then something little (maybe another back to school item) to bring my total up $25. Then I would get $5 off coupon and gotten $5 back in register rewards. See, I don't catch them all. But maybe you can : )

Here is another deal I almost missed. If you spent $50 on a MasterCard this week, you got $5 off jeans $9.99 or over. My total before any sales was over $126 and before coupons it was $82 and after coupons it was $49 and change. So I asked if I could go back and pick up the jeans. He suspended the order and I went back to get jeans. The Nesquick was with a rain check and coupons as they were out 2 weeks ago when it was on sale. I forgot to put my Watermelon in the picture today. My total was $55 and change : )

Here are my Box Top for Education purchases. If you buy 8 you got a register reward for 50 extra Box tops, if you buy 12 you got on for 100 Box Tops. Yay, I have 100, or $10 for our school. Our grade school often does contests to encourage Box Top donations. So I clip away all year long. Looks like my kids might be fighting for this one :) It has been fun for me this year to send off my kids well supplied for school and with a couple of the extras from the teachers wish lists. So some of the Zip lock will go to the school. And I use them a lot for my cooking club and freezer cooking.

Restaurant Coupons!

Once again Restaurant.com is offering a $25 gift card for $2. That is 80% off if purchased by 8/31. But you have a year after you purchase them to use them. Use coupon code TASTE over here.

Restaurant.com has teamed up with many restaurants to offer discounts when you dine out. You can enter your zip code and look at the list of participating restaurants (or the zip of where you are going if you want to use it when traveling or as a gift). Then choose your restaurant. There are 26 choices in a 15 mile radius of my zip code. Before you can use the certificate, you have to purchase a minimum amount at the restaurant, the amount varies depending on the certificate amount. Once you choose one and print you can use it right away or up or any time in the next year. Thanks for the heads up Hip 2 Save.
Well, this post may be a bit unusual. But it is one of the best things I have discovered and it may help some of you. I got these beautiful bunions from my mom. Her toes used to make a right and a left turn at the big toe. I remember that she had some pain. Mostly because when we stepped on her feet, she went through the roof. I can't remember anything I ever did as a child that would upset her as much as stepping on her feet.

Well, 15 years ago I had my first bunionectomy with a plan to come back and do the other one next. But it turned out after forced wearing of sensible shoes for a year, the pain left the second foot. I've kept to the sensible shoes with an occasional dalliance for a special occasion. But my feet usually let me know I should not step out on them. Then, this summer, my other foot really started hurting again. Now my Sister Mary 5 is a martyr with pain in her life, and once I experienced just a bit of it, I remembered "this is for the birds." But insurance, decent insurance, is not part of our life at this point. So I thought I would just give a try to those yoga toes you see in the coupon books. Of course I wanted a deal on them, and found a coupon for $1 off Flex-Tastic. So off to Walgreens I went.

Now these look a bit like something you stick on your toes for a home pedicure. And at first my toes said something like "You've got to be kidding me." It was really a stretch and painful to try to force those toes in. And several just sat down and said "I don't think so." I skipped them, and did the best I could with the others. I tried it for 3 minutes and then got them off as soon as the buzzer beeped. Slowly I worked up to the goal of 10 minutes a day, and slowly those toes began cooperating. My pain has decreased quite a bit since then. If I have a day where they are bothering me, I now do this to help alleviate the pain after the shoes come off. My big toe is straightening up. My other toes are free to move about the shoe. The curl in my toes is lessening. Not a bad deal, and really an easier recovery than the surgery. So here it is for the world to see. Sorry I didn't take a before and after photo.

Free Collage at Walgreens

Remember last week when Walgreens was running all kinds of specials on photos? They have got one more this week on Wednesday. You can get a free 8 x 10 collage with the coupon in there ad. Just pick one up when yo get to the store. Or you can do this online with the code FUNDAY when you click HERE. According to My Frugal Adventures, the code is already working.

I just went and made one for my Sister for Christmas. Just don't tell Sisters Mary 5 about it. I was able to use pictures from several online albums I've been printing from last week. You can crop and edit online. After making up to 20 choices I could shuffle around the photos (although, they chose not me) until I liked the layout. Then I changed the background color, title, and width of borders til I was happy and then placed my order. It did accept the coupon code today. I confess that we have a less than mediocre camera for 3 years and have printed once before this week. So I have a lot of catching up to do on printing, tech skills, and scrapping. This week has got me hopping on it. So it has been fun and fairly easy to play with my computer this way. But then again blogging has increased my skills : )

How Fun is That II

If you have been visiting me for awhile here you will know that I made a sad and brief attempt this spring at gardening. My neighbor, friend and fellow blogger Heidi (2 Thinks To Share) rescued me with a topsy turvy tomato plant of her own making. She just put it in a hanging basket drain hole and then put a flower and basil in the top. We have had 3 cherry tomatoes from it and are anticipating 3 more. Pretty exciting stuff over here. But we have loved the basil with tomatoes and mozzerella cheese a few times.

Yesterday Cents was in the yard and told us she had found some blueberries. I went to check it out, thinking some weed had gotten out of hand and sure enough, there were the pokeberries growing where once I dreamed of big fat tomatoes. In my sulk and neglect afterward, the whole area has gone to weeds (well all this couponing and blogging does take some time you know). So The Prof and I pull it out and then he notices a plant with what looks like Tomatoes! Tomatoes, I wish, show me. Well there they are, with some fruit coming on and everything. It has been raining off and on all week and this plant looks like we may eat from it! Who knew. I neglected it all summer long. I wonder what it will do now that I plan on watering it and have thinned the weeds. Heidi, don't laugh to hard at me, I plugged you blog again : )

How Fun is That

In my crazy and slightly compusive coupon adventure, I take two copies of the Sunday paper. I get a third set from my neighbors. Unfortunately, they are snow birds and that source will soon fly off. Last week one of my papers didn't have the coupons, but they delivered them Monday at my request. Today I opened the first paper and 3 copies of the Smart Source insert : ) How fun is that!

Ann Taylor Coupon

I wish I found this a bit sooner since it is good through the 22nd, but it just went up on several blogs I follow today. Ann Taylor has a coupon for $20 off a $20 or more full price item. So it might be worth seeing what they have. I must admit, I've not even walked in this store assuming it was too rich for my blood, so I don't know what their prices start at. Sure might be fun though. If you snag a deal, come back and let us know about it. Thanks Hip 2 Save.

McDonald's Coupon

Apparently McDonald's has a coupon book that you can get for $1 and they don't expire until 12/31/11. So it might be worth asking about if you are out near the golden arches. It has 12 coupons including:

3 FREE Baked Pies
3 FREE Apple Juices or Milk Jugs
3 FREE Small Cones
3 FREE Apple Dippers or Small Fries
I would buy more than 1 as they don’t expire until 12/31/2011

My thanks to A Thrifty Mom.

Chocolate Releif Has Arrived

Well, I'm all done with my chocolate relief, but maybe your not. Click over here for a coupon for free chocolate candy from Mars. This is the Chocolate Relief Program that is going on until the end of September. Yum. You can do this four different weeks, so it may be time for you to try it again. Be watching the mailbox for your coupon and be watching your stores for Buy One Get One free chocolate by the check out.

Tuesday's Table 8/19/09

I had so much fun at Walgreens today. They are having a 4 day sale with $5 Register Rewards back if you spend $25. Now before coupons, I never would have thought I could spend that much at Walgreens. I had a couple items on my list, so I did a little more looking and this is what I bought today:

The Huggies wipes are 2.99 and there is a $2 off coupon in the Back to School Book that is with the fliers in the store. Then I used .50 off coupon from 7/19 and 8/16 Smart Source. I used a .50 off coupon on the Scotch mailers that are on sale for .49. The olives were .99 cents with a store coupon and I printed the $1 off of two. The Soft Soap and the Conair Hair brush were 2 of the Register Rewards deals this week. I was amazed at how stocked they were for a Wednesday. Then the sandals are all 75% off, so I chose some crocs. I also had a $4 Register Reward from a week or two ago. I bought a total of 12 items and used 10 coupons. Luckily they only used the $2 off Huggie wipes once for all 4. Remember you need more items than coupons or their computer won't let you use them. My pout of pocket was $12.11 and I got $5, $4, and $2 off next purchase Register Rewards. So now you know why I was excited.

Then I went into Meijers to have some fun. I forgot to photo the 3 packs of 7up and Dr. Pepper I got. The yogurt was 10/$4 and I bought 12 with 3 Meijer Mealbox coupons of $1/4, and with .60/6 from the paper - making them a nickel each. The McCormick seasoning and gravy were 10/$5 and I got 10 with 2 coupons for $1/5 from Meijer Mealbox - making them .30 each. The pickles were $1 each after coupons and Buck eats these like candy (okay, he's a teen and he eats everything I bring in the house). So my total before sales and coupons was $65 and change and my out of pocket was $29 and change.

The $10 in Coke products, get $10 off athletic shoes deal is still going on this week. The 12 packs were 3/$11 and the 2 liters are $1.

Back to Meijer

I do love my Meijers! I went back to do the deal I figured out. Earlier this summer, when I was going a bit crazy on Crystal Light and free bottled water, they had a ton of extra coupons. So I picked up 3 of each and take them out and look at them now and then. Well one set was for $2 off Capri Sun and Chips Ahoy. This week at Meijer when you buy 4 Capri Sun you get $3 off you next order (one of those catalinas at checkout that I keep typing about). And this week when you spend $10 on Nabisco (4 packs of Chips Ahoy fits that bill) you get $10 off Hanes. So I knew I was going in. Then I saw a post about a Chinet deal over at Savings Angel (yes I still love Savings Angel). Basically, there was a $2 off coupon this past weekend in the SS 8/9 and they had a peelie on them for .50 off as well. That brought the cost down to .50 a pack. So I used up my 3 coupons on that. Crayons and gluesticks were cheap and still on the school list. I also remembered to pick up the rain check I forgot yesterday. So my total today without sales and coupons was $67.07 and I paid $20.59 and have my $3 off next purchase.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

It is looking like it is time for me to go to the mall again and here is why:

JC Penney's has a $10 off $25 coupon good until August 22. Thanks My Frugal Andventures.

The last time I went I got a $10 coupon for a purchase at Kohls and I received a 15% off coupon in the mail for them. ouIf you have there credit card, they send additional coupons around 6 times a year. They both overlap starting today. I've been patiently waiting.

And Christopher and Banks sent me another $10 off of $10 coupon once I used the first one. This one is good until the 16th, so have some fun soon with it.

Tuesday's Table 8/11/09

All these items were free : ) I used my free milk catalina from 2 weeks ago and there are Meijer Mealbox coupons for $1 off Danimals and $1 off from SS 7/26 or SS 8/9 (that's Smart Source in Sunday's paper). My kids have fun with the yogurt.

I only take blurry photos when I take one shot. Sure am wanting a better camera these days, so if you see any great deals, let me know. These were my basics on sale. The Nestles had a mealbox coupon and one from the paper.

I finally did the Kellogg's $10 rebate with the purchase of 10 items. So I will tuck away the ricecrispy treats for Cent's birthday treat for school. My rebate is off in the mail already. I used the coupons found in my Kellogg's Miniwheats from my last Kellogg's run with all the backpacks. So I think they were .88 a box this time, with the crispies being $1.38 each, and the rebate is coming. The kleenex was needed and I love getting the fun boxes for school, don't you. So my total before coupons was $78 and change and $45 after. Came in under $50 again. Of course I don't exactly post when I send The Prof on the grocery run for milk. That is too expensive.

Wow, another $5 off of $25 at Walgreens and this coupon is good until August 8th. They also have a sale going for Thursday the 6th to Saturday the 8th. You can see that add here. Looks like they will have backpacks for $4.99. Thanks again to My Frugal Adventures.

Mejier Two Day Sale.

Stop on over here for some coupon matchups with the Meijer Friday and Saturday sale. Remember that they double coupons for her Meijers, but not ours, so your mileage may vary : )

Kellogg's Coupons

With all the great Kellogg's deals going this week, I thought I would let you know where to get some more Kellogg's coupons. Hopefully you found the insert inside the Red Plum coupons in the Sunday 8/2 paper. I used those to stock up at Meijer and get the $10 off back packs. The Frosted Miniwheats had ad on the front of the box for $5 coupons for Kellogg's on the front. So of course, I bought those. The coupons inside are:

$1 off Miniwheats or Frosted Miniwheats Little Bites 14.5 or larger, any flavor
$1 off Milk when you buy 1 Froot Loops, Corn Pops, Cocoa krispies, or Frosted Flakes
$1 off Ocean Spray Cranberry or Craisins
$1 off DanActive 4 pack.

And they are all good until Sept 2010, so I don't need to rush to eat that stash of 8 boxes : )

How Fun Is That

Rembember that Christopher & Banks coupon for $10 off $10 that I had posted last week here? Well when I made my purchase, they put my info in their register - email the whole bit. So this morning I woke up to another $10 off of $10 in my mail box. How Fun is That? Here's hoping that happened for you too.

Clearance Time

I haven't done much shopping online for clothing. But there a few clearance sales going on I thought I would share and check on out.

Kohl's Gold Clearance has .99 shipping per item for today only. That's 60-80% off. I love their clearance in the stores and thought I would see if it is a bit better sorted online : )

JcPenneys has a great $10 off your $10 purchase at JC Penney online by using code
GET4BTS. Shipping will likely be around $5.99 or you can pick up in store for $5.99. I also noticed they have a $10 off of $50 coupon or $15 off of $75 to print.

And The Children's Place has their clearance at 50%. If you use the code FA79 you can get %15 off. Shipping is a flat $5.

Let me know if you find any good deals out there. Thanks again to My Frugal Adventures.

Last National Park Free Weekend

August 15 and 16 are the last free days offered this summer at many National Parks. Sleeping Bears is one of them here in MI along with Isle Royal (which I know nothing about except that the "s" is silent, being a former Il gal) Click here for a list of parks and here for consession deals.

Tuesday's Table 8/4/09

Wow, I am exhausted. This saving money thing is work and I'm still recovering from road trip for a family reunion. I went to two stores today. The first was Aldi's. They don't always have dollar deals, but they did this week. Unfortunately, the produce isn't always choice there. So I passed on the strawberries past their prime and the tiniest cantaloupe ever seen and cleaned up on the milk and other items I needed. For all the food below it only cost me $34.67.

Then it was off to Meijer for the backpacks and Kellogg's items along with just a few other things to feed my crew. I did this in three transactions at the self check out that looked like this:

For a total of $14.90 I got all this. I was pretty happy as that was the original cost of the back pack pictured. Each box has $5 worth of coupons inside. I also got a printout for $1 off my next purchase for my next order. Then I checked out with this order:

:
This total was for $9.81, which was again, less than the cost of the backpack. I received another $1 off my next purchase for buying 2 natural Skippy. Then I did one more checkout with this:

I did the backpack deal one more time with the Keebler cookies or the Cheezits counting toward it. The Suave deal was if you bought 3 products you got a free shampoo or conditioner. I'm all stocked up now on lotion and the boys can have a manly shampoo (can you imagine your Mom buying that for the boys way back when?) I used my $1 off coupons from the Natural Skippy at checkout this time so I won't loose or forget them. My total was $24.73. So my total for the week is $84.11. I may start tracking my grocery tabs for the month and see how I'm doing overall.

Schwan's Freebie

Be one of the first 500,000 to visit the Schwan's Free Food giveaway page and you could get $10 in FREE food plus free delivery.

Those who have purchased items from Schwan’s Home Service in the past 14 weeks and those not located in an existing route of the delivery service are not eligible to receive the free offer.

Also, it is not $10 off your total order but 1 item is free with no overage. So if you get 1 item for $7.99, you get it free. If you get 1 item for $11.99, you pay $1.99. If you get 2 items for $7.99 each, you still only get $7.99 off you order not $10. I ordered 8 - 2oz mini steaks and my friend got a package of 16 corn dogs for free, with no tax or delivery fees. They should be delivered in 2 days : )

Thanks so much Elizabeth!

Aldi's Deals

I have been a faithful Aldi's girl for years. I bring my own bags, my list, a quarter for the cart and a debit card or cash. I switched from the big stores when the first baby came 14 years ago. I have been a very loyal gal buying almost everything they sell and liking it, except the spaghetti sauce. But I have really downscaled my shopping there since beginning this couponing adventure. I can beat there prices with coupons used on sales or with store coupons/manufacturer coupons on the sales. So I make a small list and head in every other week for my bagels and cream cheese, a couple bags of apples, chips, and string cheese. This week I think I may be stocking up on these dollar deals:

Gallon Milk (yes for a buck!)
Cantaloupe
Pound of red or green grapes
pound of strawberries

How Fun Is That

I've been at a Buck reunion with my side of the family and we had a lot of fun. As we trickled into town the first night we met up at Sweet Tomatoes, a soup and salad buffet place. Sister Mary 2 was waiting for us to arrive and while waiting was offered some unused coupons by someone leaving. So six of us enjoyed BOGO deals on the meal. How fun is that? So if you have one near you, you can get coupons in your email box over here.
